removing plaque deposits in and around the gums, to keep the gums healthy

Scaling and Polishing

It is not necessary to schedule an appointment for scaling in a definite time interval, but it is essential to visit your dentist for a routine check up once every six months. After examining your teeth and gums, your dentist will decide whether a teeth cleaning is required for you or not.

It involves the removal of plaque and tartar, which are layers of germs adhering to the surface of the teeth near the gum line. There will be absolutely no digging, excavating or drilling of teeth or surrounding structures. You may feel a bit of sensitivity which will be taken care of by your dentist.
It is okay to experience sensitivity after the procedure, your dentist will prescribe you a desensitizing toothpaste to ease this discomfort. To help keep the gums healthy, you might get a prescription mouthwash and/or a gum paint after the procedure.
